Bhairamgarh Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is geographically situated on the east of Bhairamgarh in Bijapur. It is approximately 50 kms. away from Bijapur. The history of BWS dates back to the year 1983. The Government of Chhattisgarh established it in the year 1983 to protect the three remaining groups of wild buffaloes along with different species of plants, trees, birds and wild animals. BWS is covered by marshes,bushes and water bodies. The BWS spans an area of 138.95 sq kms. on the north east of Bijapur in Bijapur district. The sanctuary area falls under Tropical climate zone. It is the home for different species of plants,trees, birds and wild animals. Various species of wild animals found in the sanctuary include Nilgai, Sambar, Gaur, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Jackel and striped hyena including wild buffalo. Similarly, ornithologists have also recorded occurrence of the different species of birds living in the sanctuary. Important bird species found in the BWS include Darters, Wood Peckers, Peacocks, Jungle Fowls, Green Pigeons, Quails, Parrots and Stocks including migratory bird species. The BWS comprises mixed deciduous forest, teak forest, dry tropical river rain forest and bamboo brakes.

Some of the important species that are to be found are Darters, Wood Peckers, Peacocks, JungleFowls, Green Pigeons, Quails, Parrots and Stocks.
