According to the story, reaching near Narmada village-Khaira located in Amarkantak as an ordinary woman, she approached a shepherd and asked which village it was. After shepherding the shepherd, the mother accidentally descended into the hot spot as a hot stream and was established as a goddess.It is said that after bathing and worshiping in the uninterrupted hot stream of Maa Narmada, auspicious results are obtained from the visit of Rukkad Swami Temple in Khairagarh.
