While the threat of COVID-19 infection is looming large in the rural areas across the country, more than 10 thousand villages i.e. nearly half of the villages in Chhattisgarh have become COVID-free. Presently, these villages have not a single case of COVID-19 infection. The timely measures taken by the Chhattisgarh Government to prevent the spread of infection to rural areas have proven to be effective.
As soon as the second wave of COVID-19 surged in urban areas of the state, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel have immediate instructions to take every possible measure for preventing the spread of infection to rural areas. The quarantine centers established in villages during the first wave were reactivated with better infrastructure than before. For people returning from other states or cities to the village, accommodation, test,
and treatment facilities were provided in these quarantine centers. Mitanins, health teams, aanganbadi workers, and teachers were deployed to conduct a door-to-door survey for the identification of the infected people.

On instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, timely allotment and distribution of essential medicine kits were ensured in the villages. Chief Minister was personally monitoring the measures being taken for COVID control, through the network of gram panchayats and district panchayats. Mr. Baghel was regularly interacting and motivating the public representatives via video conferencing. New labs are being established one after the other to expand the testing capacity, because of which the daily sample testing capacity has expanded from 21-22 thousand to 70 thousand per day. Health infrastructure from district hospitals to primary health centers has been strengthened. The number of hospital beds was increased in the hospitals, treatment facilities were expanded to villages through new COVID care centers. Ambulances have been facilitated for taking critical patients from rural areas to hospitals nearby.
Because of the well-knit arrangements made by the State Government up to the micro-level, 9 thousand 462 out of a total of 20 thousand 092 villages have become corona-free. This includes 183 out of 704 villages in Balod district, 402 out of 957 villages in BalodaBazar, 102 out of 636 villages of Balrampur, 252 out of 589 villages in Bastar district, 311 out of 702 villages in Bemetara district, 491 out of 579 villages in Bijapur district, 96 out of 708 villages of Bilaspur district, 158 out of 229 villages of Dantewada, 176 out of 633 villages of Dhamtari, 377 out of 385 villages of Durg, 39 out of 222 villages of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 342 out of 722 villages in Gariband, 150 out of 887 villages of Janjgir-Champa, 319 out of 766 villages of Jashpur, 792 out of 1084 villages of Kanker, 832 out of 1035 villages of Kabeerdham, 407 out of 569 villages of Kondagaon district, 280 out of 716 villages of Korba, 352 out of 638 villages of Koriya, 532 out of 1153 villages of Mahasamund, 338 out of 711 villages in Mungeli, 362 out of 422 villages in Narayanpur, 173 out of 1435 villages in Raigarh, 261 out of 478 villages in Raipur, 1204 out of 1599 villages in Rajnandgaon, 194 out of 406 villages in Sukma, 140 out of 544 villages in Surajpur, and 197 villages out of 583 in Sarguja district have become Corona free, as a result of State Government’s timely consolidated efforts.
