Sai Baba was born on 28 September 1835 in the village of Pathri (Patari), Maharashtra. Some believe that he was born on 27 September 1838 in the village of Pathri in the then Andhra Pradesh and died on 28 September 1918 in Shirdi. The most clear information about Sai Baba is given by Sathya Sai Baba who is considered to be the incarnation of Baba. He told his birth place in Pathri village itself, so that is universally accepted.

According to Shashikant Shantaram Gadkari’s book ‘Sadguru Sai Darshan’ (a recitation of a recluse), a temple is built at Pathri (Patri), the birthplace of Sai. A charming statue of Sai is kept inside the temple. It is the abode of Baba, where old objects such as utensils, ghatis and idols of deities are kept. According to the temple administrators, this is the birthplace of Saibaba. Some believe that Sai was first seen in Shirdi in 1852. Then they left from there and returned after four years. It is written at most places that Sai Baba was first seen in Shirdi in 1854, when he was of teenage age. If he was 16 at that time, he would have been born in 1838 with this value. Sathya Saibaba, who considers himself an incarnation of Sai, has told Baba’s birth on 27 September 1830 in the village of Pathri (Patri), Maharashtra. If Satya says this, then at the time of Sai’s arrival in Shirdi, he must have been between 23 and 25 years old. Satya Saibaba’s guess seems correct because considering his life journey, he should enter Shirdi at this age.

It is believed that Sai Baba was born in Pathri village in Parbhani district of Maharashtra and Baba’s Guru Vaikunsha resided in Selu. This part was a part of Hyderabad Nizamshahi. Due to the composition of the province on the basis of language, this part has come to Maharashtra, now it is considered part of Maharashtra.During the Mahabharata period, pandas performed the Ashwamedha Yagna here, when Arjuna was present here about his army. Arjuna is also called Perth. This part has deteriorated to stone. It is now called pathar and pati.
